Explain the clothing metaphor in this statement of Banquo: “New honors come upon him/Like our strange garments, cleave not to their mold/But with the aid of use” (I.iii.144-146).
Banquo is meaning that Macbeth's new honors do not fit him. He has done nothing to deserve his newly found fortune. He uses the simile of clothes not fitting the man who knows nothing about his job.
