Examine and analyze the following quote: What is the importance of the quote to the play?

Tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow, Creeps in this petty pace from day to day, To the last syllable of recorded time; And all our yesterdays have lighted fools The way to dusty death. Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player, That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more. It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.

At this point in the play, Macbeth is emotionally unstable. At one moment he feels invincible and at another moment he feels weary of life. This quote represents his sense of futility towards life. He talks of nothing changing in life and that the path he has chosen only leads to darkness and despair. Macbeth is making a comment on human nature. He is saying that human anger and disaffection amounts to nothing in the end. People have their brief moment on the stage of life and then disappear. They are forgotten by the next generation. He asserts that there is nothing worthy in the human condition. He longs to end his anguish and die.
