Explain the importance of fear in the play

Fear is a powerful motivating force in the play. Fear is manipulated by different characters to achieve certain purposes. After the witches' suggestions, Macbeth both fears becoming king and not becoming king. L.Macbeth fears her husband has too much of the "milk of human kindness" to kill Duncan and be king. Banquo fears that Macbeth has "played'st most foully for 't." L. Macduff fears for herself and her family....the list goes on. Fear is a motif that is woven into the very fabric of the play. Fear causes characters to do and say all kinds of things that lead to tragic outcomes.
