Shakespeare's tragedies were about chaos the farther one gets away from England. Initially Scotland is doing well. They had just won a war with Norway and killed the Scottish rebels. As the play unfolds, Scotland is plunged into chaos and violence. This of course corresponds with Macbeth's own self-destruction centered around his tragic flaws.
