Macbeth
in his sililoquy what suspicion and hope does banquo reveal?
act 3 scene 1
act 3 scene 1
Banquo has suspected for awhile that his good friend might actually be Duncan's killer. It is only now that he verbally confirms it. He thinks Macbeth has fulfilled all the witches had suggested and that indeed, Macbeth "played most foully for it".
Thou hast it now: king, Cawdor, Glamis, all,
As the weird women promised, and I fear
Thou played’st most foully for ’t. Yet it was said
It should not stand in thy posterity
Oh yes, his hope. Banquo hopes, more like wonders, if he should "be the root and father of many kings" as the witches promised. It was beyond belief that Macbeth could be king so now Banquo wonders if his predictions might come true as well.
