Shakespeare uses a lot of paradoxes or equivication throughout the play to layer his meaning and forshadow events. Your quote is referring to the loss of a battle from the perspective of one army but its victory from the perspective of another. Of course the witches might be referring to their "battle" with Macbeth as well.
