MACBETH

Some people suggest that the porter scene is included only so that the actor playing Macbeth has time to wash the blood off his hands. Do you agree? Or do you think the scene serves other purposes? Explain your answer.

I think that the drunken porter scene is meant to ease tensions over the stressful murder scene. The porter muses about alcohol and sex to relax the audience a little before Duncan's body is discovered. Logistically, it does give time for Macbeth and L. Macbeth to wash up and re-set the scene.
