Macbeth enters, still carrying the bloody daggers with which he killed Duncan. He is deeply shaken: he feels he has sinned against God and can no longer say "Amen". L. Macbeth is shaken too but tries to pretend she has a handle on things. Macbeth has Duncan's blood dripping everywhere and begins to lament how his world has become dark: he cries that his conscience will never let him sleep again.
