Look at the theme page, it explains it there.
Her dads a drunken sailor and yet she is proposed to by Crawford and marries the son of a Baronet.
Shes treated like a slave by Mrs Norris.Lady Bertram and is looked down on by Maria and Julia (the 'step sisters' if you will).
