5. What does Vladek throw away at the end of the chapter? Why does he do it? Explain Artie's response to this?

Vladek tells Artie that he threw his (Artie's) coat in the garbage outside, and that by now the garbage men have probably taken it. "Such an old, shabby coat," he tells his son. "It's a shame my son would wear such a coat."

At first, Artie thinks he is kidding.... then he tells Vladek that he is old enough to choose his own clothing.
