Does it surprise you that Vladek shows little concern for all those who died in his train car? ( He says "They closed us again. We were very happy, we had now room where to stand.")

The people in the train car were packed in like sardines. There were approximately two-hundred people crammed into one car with no food or water. I cannot say Vladek's lack of concern wasn't understandable..... everyone was afraid for their lives. Those who died made room for those who survived. Note, a lack of concern in the moment doesn't imply he wasn't haunted by the experience for the rest of his life.
