How does word choice help the reader to hear Vladek’s accent?

Some of Vladek's English is broken, “I never heard again from him. It came such a misery in Warsaw, almost none survived.” Vladek's broken English gives him a sense of authenticity when he tells his story. It also represents Vladek's reluctance to adapt to his life in America.
