The Poles told their children numerous stories in the hopes they would reveal the whereabouts of any Jews they came across. These stories were exaggerated.... tales about Jews throwing children into bags and eating them. Unfortunately, they often had the desired effect, and the Germans successfully flushed the Jews out of hiding.
