Some of vladek's items are priceless, yet he wants to keep the cigar box where he has been storing them. Why does this seem so odd to us? why would this seem like perfectly acceptable behavior to vladek?

Vladek was used to hoarding and hiding things during the war. Expensive items were hidden in inexpensive looking places to hide from a multitude of characters, including the Nazis, both in the camps and in homes.
