what are your thoughts on the use of animal heads and human bodies ?

Spiegelman has said that he used animal heads to make his story accessible to the average person. He does not mean to trivialize the holocaust rather than it gives a sense of separation to the reader. THe reader can read about this horrid time yet remain an observer without the heavy emotional impact that might make the book less traumatic. THe animal heads also symbolize rather than vilify or stereotype certain ethnicities.
