Why do you think Anja kills herself?

There is a lot of pain to deal with. Vladek doesn't seem like the most sensitive person in the world. Anja lost her first child Richieu in the war. The death of one's child is a near impossible thing to handle. Always an anxious woman, she suffers from acute depression shortly after the birth of her son and spends three months recovering in a sanitarium.
