How are the bond story and the lottery of caskets interconnected to each other?

The two main plots are ‘The Bond Story’ and ‘The Lottery of Caskets’. The main plot is concerned with Shylock the Jew lending money to Antonio. The money is attached to a bond which demands a pound of flesh. This is known as the "bond story". The second plot revolves around Portia’s father, laying down certain test which a potential suitor of Portia must pass to win her hand. This is known as "The Casket Story.” The connection between the two stories comes when Bassanio asks Antonio for three thousand ducats to woo Portia, thus the two stories become interconnected.
