Merchant of Venice
Is there an irony in comparing the love affair of Jessica and Lorenzo to other affairs in the Play, The Merchant of Venice??

I think there is some dark irony here. Jessica's affair with Lorenzo adds a further stake into the heart of Shylock. He cannot reconcile his daughter marrying a Christian and stealing his fortune. While the other couples seem to be content with each other, we can see a condescending and manipulative treatment of Jessica by Lorenzo.
