Which do you consider the most dramatic scene in "The Merchant of Venice"? Give a brief account of your of the scene and your reason.

I would say when Shylock is forced to renounce his faith would be the most dramatic scene. Until this instance, Shakespeare plays with our loyalties. Shylock is a flawed man but I felt taking his faith away was beyond cruel. Now many Christians at the time felt that they were doing Shylock a favour by the forced conversion. The moment, however, was so full of pain for Shylock that Shakespeare had to be thinking outside of the box. The moment is heart wrenching and sad. Shakespeare had to be saying something more to his Elizabethan audience; he was truly ahead of his time.
