What about the role of sentimentalism of this movie
Metropolis is a fantastic dytopian film. Sentimentalism plays a part in the film through the character of Freder, who becomes enchanted by a woman named Maria. His infatuation soon finds him in a world he'd never understood or acknowledged, and he is faced with the reality of the underground city, which was created and overseen by his father. Freder's discovery of the people.... the children...... the workers, is accompanied by empathy and a desire to convince his father to free the working class. When his father refuses, Freder sets himself to joining the workers by taking the place of one of the men and allowing that man to gain his freedom. Freder's actions are also responsible for saving the children (with Maria) from the flooding of the city.
