analise hermias dream

Hermia is actually sleeping beside Lysander in the forrest. She dreams of a snake eating her heart while Lysander just stands around not stopping it. Puck flitters by and sprinkles his love concoction on Lysander's eyes. Presto, he wakes up and pursues his new love Helena. I guess you can say that the snake dream is a bit of foreshadowing. Lysander does break her heart. Snakes also often represent betrayal of some sort. This is also a dream, hence the title. There is also a sense of eros (sexuality) to her dream which is an underlying theme in the play.
