A Midsummer Night's Dream
A Midsummer Night's Dream
Puck personifies the light and airy feel of the play. His enthusiasm for a good joke is infectious. Much of the comic spirit of the play is driven by Puck's antics. After he turns Bottom's head into an ass, Puck gleefully tells the audience, "My mistress with a monster is in love". Although Puck is mischievous, there is nothing ever malicious in his spirit. Puck is able to maintain the sense of impish fun that makes the spirit world so much more enchanting than the world of mortals.
