These lectures backfired when Hiram's father chose to leave him in his grandparent's care while he and his wife pursued their education. As a result, Hiram and his grandfather grew closer, and Hiram's father, whose relationship with his father in described as metaphorically compared to Hitler and Roosevelt, seemingly leaves his son to be influenced by ideals he claims to hate.
