we read chapter 36 "Quarter Deck" for class and on our test it says he does attack him with a knife i was wondering where it said this

Yes, Ahab lost his leg when he tried to attack Moby Dick with a knife after the whale destroyed his boats. Ishmael explains this in Chapter 41.
