What does Ishmael think about Moby Dick? Why?

Ishamel respects the whale and believes him capable of anger, vengeance, and viciousness. He gives the whale human traits and sees him capable of human reaction. As the narrator, Ishmael spends an inordinate amount of time attempting to convince us that the whale's actions are reasonable. Makes you wonder :-D
