Why do you think Steve choose to include the flashback about throwing the rock with Tony?

This flashback is when they were twelve years old. Steve throws a rock and hits a woman with her big boyfriend. The big boyfriend thinks it is Tony who threw it and Steve does not own up to it. This speaks to Steve's credibility as a friend.
