Why did Steve have a flashback about Jerry

1. How does Myers use the flashback to develop Steve or characteristics of Steve?
2. Why might the author have included this scene in the novel?

I'm not totally sure where you mean but at one point Steve has a flashback of Steve sitting at home with his younger brother Jerry. Jerry says he wishes Steve were Batman so he could be Robin. They would be a dynamic duo when someone messes with them.
