When the father says "that wind's something," why do you think the grandfather responds "if you don't like the wind,... you don't like Montana..."?
The wind is a part of the Montana landscape. The people, who have long lived there, like Grandpa, are molded out of that landscape. They work with the Montana elements and they become part of those elements.
