In what way may the Indian Circle beyond the pond be a metaphor for the cycle of changing seasons?

Jim sees the Indian circle as a good omen, but it is also a sign that the white settlers don't know the land as well as they think they do.... that the land and its constant changes will surprise them, and that it will endure long after they are gone.
