why did jim go to stay at the cutters house at night?

Antonia is apprehensive about taking care of the Cutter house while he is away. She goes to the Burden house and explains she is instructed to stay in the house and guard the silverware. She also says she is creeped out by the way Mr. Cutter looks at her. Mrs. Burden suggests Jim go and stay with her for a while.
