The play begins with a debate briefly explain how this came about
Mr. M set up the debate in order to address the subject of apartheid and education from the inside out. providing Thami with the opportunity to debate in an affluent white school is meant to be encouraging.... to teach him that education is important and that he should reach outside the political limitations to grow as a person and to represent his people. Note, Thami is brilliant, but Mr. M is also worried about the influences that surround him. Mr. M is exposing both Isabel and Thami to the things around them.
