Isabell is white and her school was weary of letting her speak in the black location called the "location". After Thami's school created a debate team, Isabel tells the audience that they contacted her school to try to set up a "pioneering intellectual exchange" (p.21) and her school decided it would be okay after checking with the police and ensuring that the students would not walk around outside of the school at all.
