Why does Dangarembga choose Anorexia, a disease very rarely found in African women, as the way for Nyasha to exert her rebellion?

Anorexia is a disease often linked with control issues. Nyasha feels impotent, she has control over nothing in her life. At least starving herself gives her control over something in her life.
