Never Let Me Go

Margaret Atwood says that in “Never Let Me Go”, Ishiguro picks “a difficult subject; ourselves seen through a glass darkly.” How far do you agree that Ishiguro does this?

Quote from Margaret Atwood on slate.com which appears on the back cover of the novel 'Never Let Me Go' by Kuzo Ishiguro

"A briliantly executed book by a master craftsman who has chosen a difficult subject: ourselves, seen through a glass, darkly"

There are many dark an challenging themes in this book. Ishiguro highlights many forms of willful ignorance, of social issues (like the organ donations) as well as personal issues (like sex and virginity). Often, his characters shy away from pressing for information when they sense they do not want to know the answers to their questions. He suggests that willful ignorance is the mechanism by which social injustices are perpetuated.
