Yes, Kathy's narration is unreliable. What we learn begins and ends with her recollection. She isn't a mind reader; she admits that she doesn't remember everything in detail, and she can't possible be everywhere at the same time. We learn lots of information about who Kathy is, but as for the rest...... it comes from her own experience and perspective.

Kathy may be seen as an unreliable character. From her narrative voice, she talks as if the reader shares a similar background and immediately recognises the terms "donors", "carers" and "completion" yet she assumes they were not brought up in Hailsham. This can be a problem because she might use a term we think we know but oblivious that it may have another meaning to Kathy. However, there are other indications that the reader may question the reliability of the narrator. She admits to not remembering everything as memories can be flawed in "Or maybe I'm remembering it wrong. "
