Coping Challenges for multiple generations living under one roof?
One strategy for coping with the challenges posed by low wages and high rents is to share an
apartment or hotel room. Think about the family structure and living
arrangements throughout the last century. Has marriage and family formation been a
social institution or an economic institution? What trends have been observed in extended
families (three generations living under one roof, or two older generations living under one
roof), and how do these relate to economic well-being?
