Chapter 7-9 6. Why dod you think Wiesel chose to end his novel with a haunting tone, saying that "a corpse gazed back at me?" What do you think he is trying to say?

I don't think there is a happy ending to this novella even though they were freed by the Russians. Eliezer had lost his family (including father), his own identity and his God. Eliezer no longer believed in humanity. The corpse that gazed back at him was the only world he now new. It would take many years before he felt alive again.
