Moshe the Beadle was a mentor to Eli. A poor, humble man who works at the Hasidic synagogue in Sighet, Moché is well liked by all the townspeople. He is considered eccentric and crazy but Elie likes him. Elie finds that Moshe fills a spiritual hole inside of him by teaching the Cabbala. While others in the town dismiss Moshe's warnings of a Jewish apocalypse on its way, Elie isn't so sure that Moche is making this up.
