This is from the story the night chapters 3-5
Both centers are horrific..... the Jews are herded into cold farm-house-like structures and crowded into beds. They have to lie about their ages and occupations, as those who are not deemed useful will be killed and sent to the ovens. Elie's love for his father never falters, although, he does have moments when he thinks he would be better off without him..... these thoughts fill him with guilt, however, because of the great love he feels for him.
