How did Elie's father impact him?

Initially Eli's father is a leader in the community and too busy for Eli. Through the horrors of the camp they stick by each other and understand one another better. As the horrific conditions continue in the camp, Eli finds it increasingly difficult to take care of his father. While Eli loses faith, his father keeps believing.
