how does elie change by the end of the first night? physically, emotionally, spiritually

From beginning to end Elie's physical well being is a downward slide, emotionally....... he comes to terms with what is happening and matures in order to watch out for his father; other physical changes were forced such as head shaving and unreasonable physical torture (running in inclement weather). Spiritually he loses his faith in God, but not forever!
