In the next to the last sentence in the book, Eliezer says that when he looked in a mirror after liberation, he saw a corpse gazing back at him. Why will the look never leave him?

The way he looked in the mirror will never leave him because he will never forget his experience.... the way he looked in the mirror will forever be etched in his mind.
