Compare Elie’s character at the beginning and end of the novel. What experiences impacted his transformation the most? How does he react to his father’s fate at the end of the story, and what does this say about his extreme change.

In the beginning, Elie is a young innocent, who wants nothing more than to submerse himself in his religion. The concentration camps and mass genocide, however, shake his faith to the core. Throughout the novel, Elie takes care to stay close to his father.... they are protactive of each other.... they're family. In the end, however, his father's death leaves him with a sense of relief. He cannot fight for them both anymore..... he can barely fight for himself.
