One example would be found in Chapter One, describing Moeshe. Moeshe had “dreaming eyes, their gaze lost in the distance” (Page 13). This description tells us that he is a bit of a daydreamer.
On Page 17, the narrator again characterizes Moeshe by his eyes. He says “Moche had changed. There was no longer any joy in his eyes…he wept." This denotes what had transpired in the time period between Moeshe's deportation from and return to Sighet.
