Line 27-29
Inner conflict, the father has to reassure his daughter that she won't get into trouble for the ice-cream stain on her dress, and yet he knows that he will be in trouble.....
Another internal conflict can be found in the injury to the deer. He's torn because his daughter wants to help (as does a bystander), but torn because he doesn't want her exposed to the injury or the imminent death that will follow. When the shot is heard, his reaction tells us that his knowing reaction is as strong as what he believed hers would be......but he kept her innocent, she never knew what the shot symbolized.
