What are elies and his father’s reaction to danger and what does that tell us about their character?

I think they tried to take care of each other. Elie certainly felt stress not only trying to stay alive but take care of his elderly father as well. They tried to get on the same work detail as well as the same lodgings. Both Elie and his father loved each other and were willing to sacrifice for the other.
