The miracle that does happen is the liberation of the prison camp and a new chance for life. Although the story ends there, the reader realizes that this writer survives and goes on to a very successful life reminding everyone of the way in which the Holocaust must be remembered in order to not be repeated. The narrator sees himself in a mirror looking more corpselike than anything else. That he is alive is a miracle considering how much those in charge of the camp wanted to kill everyone left.
