The first chapter begins with a man named Moshe the Beadle. People think him an odd old man. Eli considers him a learned man. One day Moshe gets expelled for being a foreign Jew. Moshe makes it back to Sighet wounded in the leg. He tries to warn the Jews about what is comming.Moshe attempts to warn them of the genocide that lays ahead but the people do not listen.
