Who was Moshe the Beadle?

Moche worked at the synagogue and helped Elie study the cabbala. He is deported early in the novel because he is a foreigner in Sighet, and is sent to the concentration camps. He escapes and returns to warn the Jews about what is happening, but is ignored and considered crazy.
