Why do you think they refuse to believe Moshe when he returns to Sighet?

Moshe is an old man and considered eccentric. His news involves the destruction of life as they know it. The Jews in Sighet prefer to think he is crazy or blowing things out of proportion because this would mean they could go about their lives undisturbed by the war.
